Nancy

For Nancy, 69, living alone in a private residence means she takes care of everything. From cooking to looking after things around the house, Nancy took on all the activities of daily living. Unfortunately, her daily routine was interrupted when she was admitted to Medical City Plano for acute respiratory failure where she was intubated.

Following her one-month stay, Nancy was transferred to Vibra Hospital of Richardson with pneumonia complications. Her evaluation showed a high level of anxiety and extreme shortness of breath requiring high flow oxygen. Nancy was unable to walk or move on her own, making her dependent for all self-care and transfers.

After three weeks of dedicated work with physical and occupational therapy, Nancy was able to walk 50 feet with an assistive device and perform all bathing, dressing, and toileting tasks with minimal assistance. She was discharged to an acute rehabilitation hospital with a plan to work towards getting back to her independent lifestyle.
